“Three wishes granted, and a friend as well…” – who instantly recognizes the melody? Many people who grew up in Chemnitz after 2000 know this catchy tune – and not only here! The song is part of the children’s musical “Three Wishes Granted”, which has travelled far beyond Chemnitz to Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Belgium – reaching schools, theatres, and community groups.
It all began here, at the music school on Thomas-Mann-Platz. This is where the idea emerged to create special musicals written, produced, and performed by children for children. In 2001, the first story about the “Traumflieger” was staged with “Three Wishes Granted“. This was followed by the colourful world journey “Felicitas Kunterbunt”, “The Wondrous Christmas Time“, and “The Secret of the Song Mill”. A musical for teenagers was also developed here: “Everything’s Cool“. Together with students from Chemnitz, productions were created that have since shaped entire generations.
Performing on a big stage allows children to discover their joy in acting and to showcase their musical talents. For young audiences, it is just as special to see people their own age playing the heroes. Parents appreciate the depth and the messages within the stories. And so, the songs continue to travel – into daycare centres, classrooms, and children’s rooms. They are performed again, sung along to, and remain as catchy tunes. Even many years later, some adults still find themselves humming “We are all children of this world.”
